Anthropic's Annual Revenue Surpasses OpenAI, Claude Code Hits $25 Billion in 9 Months

Founded in 2021 and earning its first dollar less than three years ago, this company has now outperformed its parent in revenue. With three consecutive years of 10x growth, enterprise customers doubled to 1,000 in two months, and an IPO is already in the works.

Anthropic officially confirmed today: its annualized revenue has exceeded $30 billion.

This figure surpasses that of OpenAI.

In December 2024, Anthropic's annualized revenue (multiplying monthly revenue by 12) had just reached $1 billion. By the end of 2025, it was $9 billion, rising to $14 billion in February this year, and $19 billion in March. Today, it stands at $30 billion.

It took only one month to jump from $19 billion to $30 billion—adding $11 billion in annualized revenue in a single month.

The growth rate is even more staggering: three consecutive years of 10x growth, with the intervals between milestones becoming increasingly shorter.

## The Enterprise-First Strategy is Working

In February this year, the number of enterprise customers spending over $1 million annually was just over 500. Today, that number has doubled to 1,000—in less than two months. Eight of the Fortune 10 are now Claude customers.

One particularly interesting figure: Claude generates approximately $211 in revenue per monthly active user, while OpenAI's corresponding figure is $25 per weekly active user. That's an 8x difference in monetization efficiency. Far fewer users, yet significantly higher revenue.

## Claude Code is the Biggest Driver

Launched publicly only in May 2025, this product has achieved $2.5 billion in annualized revenue in just 9 months.

Currently, 4% of public commits on GitHub are generated by Claude Code. Reports suggest this could reach 20% by year-end, meaning one out of every five code commits on Earth could come from the same model.

## Compute Capacity Catches Up

With overwhelming demand, Anthropic today also announced a major move: signing agreements with Google and Broadcom to procure next-generation TPU compute capacity at the gigawatt scale, expected to come online starting in 2027. The majority of this compute will be deployed within the United States.

This capacity will primarily be used for inference—running existing models to serve users—rather than training the next generation of models.

Claude currently runs on three different chip types: AWS Trainium, Google TPU, and NVIDIA GPUs, making it the only frontier AI model available on all three major cloud platforms: AWS Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI, and Microsoft Azure Foundry.

## IPO is Already Underway

Anthropic completed a $30 billion funding round in February this year at a $380 billion valuation. Multiple sources note that buyer demand far exceeds seller supply, with some analysts suggesting the implied valuation is already trending toward $600 billion.

The company is preparing for an IPO, having already hired Wilson Sonsini as legal counsel. Multiple media outlets report it could happen as early as the second half of this year.

An interesting comparison: OpenAI recently completed a $122 billion funding round at an $852 billion valuation. Yet, Anthropic's revenue already exceeds OpenAI's, its growth rate is faster, but its valuation is less than half of OpenAI's.

How will the market value this company with three consecutive years of 10x growth when it prices its IPO?
